I have eaten at this facility once a year for three years. This is usually were my family has eaten for a pre-holiday dinner, usually family is traveling great distances from out of state to visit, and looks forward to a great dinning experience. First year, large party, no major issues came to mind.
Disappointing - Clam Haven
Second year, large party, my mother had a "hidden" broken tooth pick in her sandwich, otherwise average food. This year, my wife called a day in advance making a reservation for a party of 13, she received a confirmation text of the reservation time, date and party size. At no time during this process did any one from this facility state they do not take reservations. Upon arrival at the facility, I went to check in with the host, I asked the host if the table was ready, the host stated "no".
I asked what time the reservation was for? I did this to confirm we were working in the same time zone, and to mitigate any time differences that could have been present. Meanwhile 30 minutes later, several members of my family regularly require medical attention in order to consume medications or require sustenance to maintain blood sugar levels and still no table, followed up with more apologies from staff members, and still 2 patrons who have paid there bill are still consuming a table required to accommodate my family.
After consulting with the manager, she states once seated we will have two servers and some complimentary appetizers. Once seated the manager presented me a gift card, of which I immediately hand it to my father, appetizers were never brought to the table. Post drinks, server one starts to take food orders, server two comes in for the assist, at which time server one tells server two that the assistance is not needed and server two leaves.
After viewing this transaction between the two servers, I was torn by what the manager had stated and the service my family was about to receive. Starting at my end of the table server one starts taking food orders, it was my turn to order, but with the current events unrolling the way they were, I asked if she could get back to me so I could review the menu some more, and she went on taking the rest of the orders.
Upon completion of the orders, all the menus were collected, and server one never asked me for my dinner order. Shortly after, server two comes back, and asks me if I would like something, at which point I was to insulted as a guest to eat anything in this highly rated facility. At conclusion of dinner and prior to departure, I spoke with management, and expressed my concerns one last time, of which I stated and ended with "free meals and gift cards will not make up for this below average dinning experience, the damage has been done.
To manager, some of the responses received, don't confuse these for closing comments. Why were 2 patrons who paid there bill and seated for 2 hrs, not offered a seat at the bar or another table and offered a complimentary desert or drink. I know if my wife and I are asked by a manager, we would have morally and ethically moved to accommodate a larger party, and accepted a desert or drink, with no issues.
We cant ask people to move. Why did you take our reservation if you don't take reservations? The host is new and doesn't know.
T-Bones Great American Eatery Gluten Free - Union Avenue, Laconia, NH
And several other questions that are significant to this situation, ending with weak responses. My father stated he will be calling the corporate office after this. I assure you, I have never felt so insulted or agitated with a lack of professionalism at a dinning facility before, remaining a humble and respectful patron during this interaction was a good personal self test. I don't know how there are so many good reviews for this facility, I guess when you "move the fridge, you find the roaches.
During this busy time of the year, I can understand how important it is to have your family all together for a nice meal. I would first like to apologize, as I'm sure the manager on duty already has, that this host working at this time was misinformed and did not relate to you and your family that we do not, and have not ever in previous years, accepted reservations. We work on a "Call Ahead" system that allows our staff to plan accordingly for parties coming in, but does not guarantee being seated at a specific time.
As you can see from your experience, we cannot be sure when a table will be finished with their dining experience; we can only make an estimated guess. In regards to asking the guests sitting at the table before you to move, this is sometime we would never do.
Unfortunately, they did take longer than anticipated to complete their dining experience, but it would be rude of us to make them feel as though they had overstayed their welcome.. Please know in the future, if any of your family members have dietary needs for medical reasons, do not hesitate to inform the staff. We would be more than welcome to get them complimentary, juice, milk, bread, or whatever else is needed to aid them.
I do hope that you contacted our home office about your experience as stated. If you have any further questions or comments, please do not hesitate to reach out to me at amy. Again, thank you for sharing your feedback. We will be sure to coach our staff based on the experience you have shared. We went to this place twice it was so good! Very convenient for the Lakes region. The seafood was excellent quality, well cooked and a really good quantity for the money.
The signature t-bone steak was great - perfectly cooked to specification. Very popular place with locals, so quite lively. Option to sit at bar or in booths, and free wifi if you want it. On September 9th, my daughter and I visited Clam Haven for an end of season dinner. My family has visited Clam Haven on numerous occasions over the years, and never been disappointed. The food is always fresh, the portions generous, and the price is fair.

Great clams and ice cream! We'll, almost 20 years later the Clam Shack is still here and as good as I remember! Big baskets and platters that come with slaw, fries AND onion rings. Friendly folks work the counter to make it even better! Nice outdoor seating both covered and in-the-open picnic tables for these beautiful summer evenings. This place is a Derry classic and a must visit! I went to Clam Haven to pick up an easy supper for me and my husband. I had a coupon for a BOGO chicken basket dinner.
I brought them home feeling pretty good about dinner being all set. I was so disappointed on eating my meal.
The chicken was in 4 pieces and was dry. I am sure it had been frozen and bought in bulk. I could only eat 2 pieces and threw the basket away.
The onion rings have too much batter on them. I have been here before and the seafood is done really well. Make sure to ask if you order is not brought in frozen. I will go back, but not for any chicken. Own or manage this property? Claim your listing for free to respond to reviews, update your profile and much more.
